Job Description:
Overview:
This role leads traffic engineering tasks such as signal design, traffic studies, and intersection improvements. The Senior Project Engineer applies traffic analysis tools and design standards to enhance safety, mobility, and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
∙ Lead design of traffic signals, ITS, and intersection improvements
∙ Perform traffic impact studies, warrant analyses, and operational reviews
∙ Guide development of traffic control plans and striping layouts
∙ Apply MUTCD and state traffic engineering standards
∙ Oversee traffic modeling using software such as Synchro or VISSIM
∙ Review plans for constructability and compliance
∙ Mentor junior traffic engineers
∙ Coordinate with municipal, county, and state traffic departments
∙ Monitor schedule adherence and support budget tracking
∙ Present findings and recommendations to clients and agencies
Qualifications:
∙ Bachelor of Science degree in civil or transportation engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
∙ Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
∙ Minimum 6 years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning
∙ Proficient in Synchro, VISSIM, MicroStation, and MS Office Suite
∙ Strong understanding of MUTCD, signal design, and traffic operations
∙ Excellent written and oral communication skills
∙ Self-motivated and able to manage complex traffic tasks
∙ High level of accuracy in reports and design documents
∙ Proven ability to coach and support junior staff
∙ Available to work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime as needed
